Southern Polytechnic State University hosts annual Scout Day of Merit

Nearly 200 Boy and Girl Scouts of America will be on the Southern Polytechnic State University campus April 21 for the 3rd annual Scouting Day of Merit and Achievement.

Southern Polytechnic faculty and staff will volunteer their time and knowledge to assist the Scouts in achieving merit badges in the areas of Computers, Citizenship of the World, Electronics, Surveying and Pulp and Paper. Limited session sizes will provide personal attention and hands-on opportunities for the scouts in each of the areas.

The Scouting Day of Merit and Achievement will begin with registration at 8 a.m., with the actual merit programs at 9:15 a.m throughout the Southern Polytechnic campus.

The Scouting Day of Merit and Achievement began in 1999 as a public outreach program coinciding with the inauguration celebration of SPSU President Dr. Lisa A. Rossbacher. "Southern Polytechnic is ideally suited to provide the science and technology-related assistance the scouts are seeking in these special areas," said Rossbacher.

Southern Polytechnic State University offers bachelor's and master's degree programs in the sciences, technologies and engineering, addressing the professional workforce needs of many of the nation's fastest growing fields. Approximately 4,000 students pursue their education in day and evening classes on the Southern Polytechnic campus, which is located some 20 minutes northwest of downtown Atlanta.
