Aaron Alexander, a recent graduate of Southern Polytechnic State University, has been named the 2000 Engineering Technology Student of the Year by the Metro Atlanta Engineering Week Awards Committee. Alexander was recently recognized with a plaque at the Metro Atlanta Engineering Week dinner.

Alexander maintained a 3.82 grade point average in mechanical engineering technology and was an active member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). He graduated from Southern Polytechnic last fall.

"This award is a very pleasant surprise," said Alexander. "It's a tribute to the great professors in Southern Polytechnic's Mechanical Engineering Technology Department and the focused attention they give each student. My education at Southern Polytechnic has helped me tremendously in the work place."

Alexander currently works at Lucent Technologies as a process engineer.
