Southern Polytechnic State University student Glen Hill has been selected as the recipient of the 1999 Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference A. O. Duer Award. He has been presented a certificate from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and was nominated for the national A.O. Duer scholarship.
The award is presented annually to a student-athlete from each conference in the NAIA who has excelled academically as well as athletically. Hill, a senior on the Southern Polytechnic tennis team, is a physics major with a 4.0 GPA. "Mr. Hill is an outstanding example of the high ideals and standards held by each member institution within the NAIA," said Ron Melton, chair of the NAIA Council of Faculty Athletics Representatives.
Hill, a serve and volleyer from Queensland, Australia, plays number one singles for Southern Polytechnic. "Glen is a very inspirational athlete who works hard and shows great leadership on and off the court," said Karl Staber, Southern Polytechnic's director of sports and recreation.
The Southern Polytechnic tennis team will open its 2000 season in March.
