SPSU's Guner Sanders accepted for prestigious summer research program

Guner Sanders, a junior physics major at Southern Polytechnic State University, has been accepted by the Los Alamos National Laboratory to conduct undergraduate research this summer. The ten-week program will last June 5 through August 11.

"Going to Los Alamos will give me a wealth of research experience, and a foot in the door for a doctoral program," Sanders said. Sanders' professor, Dr. Jayanti Lahiri of SPSU's Physics department, said the summer research program should prove invaluable.

"It's a prestigious honor. It's competitive - not many students are selected to participate in the program," said Lahiri. "Guner has excelled here and deserves this opportunity." This project is funded by the National Science Foundation. Sanders was also recognized at SPSU's recent Student Awards reception for his 4.0 GPA.

Southern Polytechnic State University is a residential university with approximately 4,000 students pursuing bachelor's and master's degrees in many of the nation's fastest-growing fields related to engineering and technology. One mile west of I-75's Exit 263, the university is just 20 minutes northwest of downtown Atlanta, GA.
