International experts to attend symposium on Bauhaus

Architecture experts from around the world will participate in a symposium on the influential Bauhaus design movement at Southern Polytechnic State University on October 24-26.  Titled “The Bauhaus Legacy: Myth, Reality & Reevaluation,” Southern Polytechnic’s School of Architecture, Civil Engineering Technology and Construction is hosting the event in the school’s Architecture building.

Other experts attending represent Southern Polytechnic State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of Oklahoma, Smith College, Bowling Green State University, University of Tennessee, University of Colorado and Washtenaw Community College (Ann Arbor, Mich.).

Staatliches Bauhaus was founded by Walter Gropius in 1919 and the school’s workshops became the birthplace of new industrial designs, creating one of the most important design movements of the twentieth century.  The school’s basic ideologies were to integrate art and technology for the benefit of both disciplines.

Southern Polytechnic State University is a member of the University System of Georgia and is the only public institution in Georgia to offer a nationally accredited Bachelor of Architecture degree.  The school addresses the professional workforce needs of many of the nation’s fastest growing fields by offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the sciences, technologies and engineering.
