Publication lists SPSU as being one of the country's major producers of engineering technology graduates

According to the recent publication "Engineering & Technology Degrees 2000," Southern Polytechnic State University is one of the top producers of engineering technology graduates in the country.

"Engineering & Technology Degrees 2000" is a bi-annual study by the Engineering Workforce Commission of the American Association of Engineering Societies (AAES). The organization is dedicated to advancing the knowledge, understanding, and practice of engineering in the public interest. The Engineering Workforce Commission has conducted the survey for the last 33 years.

The survey covers information from 285 schools offering engineering technology degrees. The commission reports that Southern Polytechnic State University awarded 230 bachelor's degrees in engineering technology in 2000, placing the university in the top ten in number of graduates. The university also awarded 44 master's degrees in engineering technology, second only to Murray State University in Kentucky.

"This is great news. There has been an increase of late in the number of engineering and engineering technology students, and our numbers are indicative of the fact that Southern Polytechnic is one of leaders in training engineering technology students," said Richard Aynsley, dean of SPSU's School of Engineering Technology and Management.
