Accomplished pianist Lance Crimm will perform a selection of classical and popular music, as well as his own compositions, in a piano concert Thursday, November 1, at 8 p.m. in the Southern Polytechnic State University Student Center Theater.
An assistant professor in SPSU's electrical and computer engineering technology department, Crimm has been playing the piano since he was four years old. He has studied under such leading contemporary Christian artists as Dino Kartsonakis.
Crimm was offered a full scholarship in music and piano performance from Covenant College, but turned it down so that he could focus his attention on more employable interests. He went on to receive bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, but has continued to study and play the piano.
Crimm is a regular performer at the Lake Oconee Presbyterian Church in Greensboro and Kings Bridge Nursing Home in Decatur. One of his distinctive touches is his ability to blend his computer skills with his music - using his computer keyboard as a synthesizer.
The concert, sponsored by Southern Polytechnic's Cultural Series, is a benefit for the SPSU foundation, which raises money for special academic and enrichment programs and projects at SPSU. Tickets for the event are $5. For more information, call (678) 915-7374.
