SPSU student named Best Presenter at regional competition

Southern Polytechnic State University senior Carol Lively was named Best Presenter at the recent Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) regional competition in Birmingham, Al. In addition to winning a plaque, Lively will have the opportunity to visit one of sponsoring company Centex-Rooney's nationwide job sites.

The ASC holds the competition annually to provide student participants with scenarios mirroring the real-life construction process. Participants are given a problem and have 24 hours to prepare written solutions and presentation materials. This year, eight SPSU construction majors competed in two divisions, the commercial-construction and residential categories. Lively was on the commercial-construction team.

Both Arlan Toy, professor of construction at SPSU, and Brian Moore, assistant professor of construction, attended the event with the team. "I am very happy for Carol," said Moore. "It was a tremendous presentation, and I'm sure she will learn a lot from visiting one of the construction sites. I am also pleased for the team. Many of the participants were freshmen and sophomores making their first appearance. I expect great things from these students in years to come."
