The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) has presented its third Millenium Medal to Southern Polytechnic State University's Chih-Cheng Hung. The award is given in recognition and appreciation of valued services and outstanding contributions to the organization. Chih-Cheng Hung is an associate professor in SPSU's Computer Science department.
"This is a great honor, to receive this recognition," said Hung. "It's very encouraging." Besides the award from the IEEE, Hung received a proclamation from the Alabama Senate commending him for his award and his contributions to computer science in that state. The proclamation read " it is fitting and proper to honor persons of the caliber of Dr. Chih-Cheng Hung, who have made innumerable contributions to the great state of Alabama; its citizens; and to our way of life as a whole."
Hung received his bachelor's degree in Business Mathematics from Soochow University in Taipei, Taiwan, and a master's degree in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Afterwards, he taught at Alabama A&M University for seven years. Beside IEEE, he is also a member of the International Society of Computers and Their Applications, Academic Association of Chinese University Professors in America, Chinese-American Academic and Professional Association in Southeastern Mid-America, and the Monte Jade Science and Technology Association. He joined SPSU in January 2000.
