Abstract

This study sampled 3611 residents from 14 cities during severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) receding in China Mainland, respondents reported more social support from individual social network than that from organizations; family members, relatives, friends and fellow workers offered more emotional and instrumental support; and working affiliation, community and government provided knowledge support at a higher level. The results of hierarchical regression analysis furnished evidence that social support had direct impact on coping behaviors of people about SARS.
