Abstract

This paper presents a decision model for implementing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in developing countries. The model identifies the challenges and opportunities faced by management in implementing ERP systems in developing countries. The model links the ERP decision to the benefits, risks, and the capabilities of the organization acquiring and implementing ERP systems. The model is developed from a developing country perspective, namely Egypt. Because of the lack of enough implementations, the authors opted to do an in depth case study of a single company, exploring the issues that confronted management when acquiring and implementing an ERP system, and hence testing the validity of the decision model.
