New Centers:
1) Academic Support Center: The mission of Academic
Support Center (ASC) will be to provide integrated support for
SPSU faculty as they pursue excellence in teaching, scholarship,
and service. It will provide staff expertise to guide and assist
with planning, development, assessment and delivery of
instruction, to continually explore promising delivery
alternatives and to coordinate programs that connect SPSU with
the world. Dawn Ramsey, who is retiring effective September 1,
2007, will become the Director of this unit on October 1, 2007
as a part time administrator. Reporting to her will be the
instructional design and support team.
2) Continuing Education Center: The mission of the
Continuing Education Center is to provide services to SPSU, the
business community and the community at large by extending,
enhancing, and expanding the traditional teaching and service
roles of the University to new clients, in new formats and
through the infusion of new technologies. Denise Stover will
continue to be the director of this unit with some modified
responsibilities.
3) Southern Polytechnic Applied Research Center: The
mission of the Southern Polytechnic Applied Research Center is
to support Southern Polytechnic faculty in research, development
and the application of technology within their areas of
expertise. Our support includes the identification of
opportunities, development of proposals and the administration
of grants and contracts upon award. The Applied Research Center
is committed to providing growth opportunities for faculty and
students and establishing Southern Polytechnic State University
as a leading center of applied technology. Dr. Ruston Hunt will
move from Department Chair of IET to his new role as Director of
this unit. Tom Ball will assume the responsibilities of
Department Chair of IET.
4) Engineering Planning: The mission of this office
will be to guide our efforts into new engineering areas and to
assist in the development of a future School of Engineering. Dr.
Tom Currin will continue in this role as Director of Engineering
Planning.
