The Sciences: Physics

Classical physics has two main divisions, experimental and theoretical. The theoretical physicist consumes literature and literature is his or her primary tool. The experimental physicist is closer to the engineer, taking the theory developed by the theoretical physicist and devising ways to test the theory.

Journal literature is the primary resource for the theoretical physicist, and he may use electronic journals to obtain the most current preprints of articles before they appear in print.
