The Internet has become an essential source of information and entertainment and an important means of communicating and conducting business. Unfortunately, con artists and charlatans can also use it to spread misinformation and computer viruses and to defraud unwary consumers. Unwitting computer users are often their accomplices, as well as their victims, spreading hoaxes, chain letters, urban legends, viruses, and "offers too good to be true." Verification of information found on the Internet or received in your email is difficult at best, but there are a few sites which offer sound advice and dispel rumors. This is not a complete listing, but a few of the most reputable of these sites.
