October 15, 2008 – 20th Anniversary –
1988 – 2008 – Johnson Library’s Expansion
The first library building for the campus was erected
in 1968 under the campus name of Southern Technical Institute
(Southern Tech). Twenty years later, the architecture firm of
Sizemore -- Floyd provided a new skin to the building which opened
in 1988. Today, after 20 years of the expansion, L.V. Johnson
Library continues to provide excellent customer care; books to
support the expanding polytechnic curriculum; a myriad of academic
databases; an expanded Archives space; and a total of 30 small
and large group study rooms as well as 200 study carrels to accommodate
the academic needs of students.
On October 15, 2008 at Noon – 12:50,
there will be a mid-day celebration held in the Library Rotunda.
A feature of the day will be to honor members of Facilities/ Plant
Operations who were employed at Southern Tech in 1988 and some
of them remain at Southern Polytechnic State University today.
