Circulation Services
Loan Periods and Policies
Books in the general collection circulate for four weeks. In order to check out a book, you must present your picture ID at the Circulation Desk. We ask that all materials be checked out ten minutes prior to closing. Click here for Library hours.
Materials placed on Reserve circulate for two hours, three days, or seven days. Reserve materials are searchable in GIL (the library's online catalog) under "Course Reserves". You may search by course number or by professor name.
Textbooks circulate for two hours; however, the loan period for all other Reserve materials is determined by the professor placing these items on Reserve.
Fines
General Collection 35¢/dayTwo-Hour Reserves 5¢/minuteThree-Day and Seven-Day Reserves $2.50/dayMaximum Fine $35.00/itemMaximum Fine (Reserves) $10.00/itemGeneral Collection items have a four day grace period. On the fifth day after the due date, all fines are assessed retroactively. There is no grace period on reserve materials. When you accrue fines in excess of $10.00, you will be blocked from borrowing, renewing, or requesting library materials. If you have unpaid fines at the end of the semester, you may be blocked from registering for the next semester. Renewals
You may renew books in person in the library or online via the GIL catalog. The library does not renew books over the telephone. You do not need to bring your books to the library to renew them; all that is required is a photo ID card. To renew online, logon to your GIL account, check the items you want to renew, and click the "Renew" button.
Requesting Materials
If a book you need has been checked out to someone else, you may request it through the GIL online catalog. Click the "Request" link at the top or bottom of the screen on which the record for the book is displayed. When is returned, you will be notified that the book is available for you to pick up at the Circulation Desk.
You may not renew books which someone else has requested. Out of consideration for others, please return books which have been requested as soon as possible.
