Strategic Planning Task Force – notes from meeting on 12 January 2006

 

 

3 Major Strategic Goals:

1 -  Increase Enrollment

2 – Become a More Comprehensive University

3 – Develop a Positive Environment/Climate

 

Report from Enrollment Group – Jim Cooper

 

·    A handout was provided describing progress so far; handout is available on the forum website accessible through the “For Faculty and Staff” link on the University’s homepage.

·    Three enrollment goal areas were identified:

1.      Increase retention, progression, and graduation rates

2.      Increase new undergraduate enrollment

3.      Increase new graduate enrollment

·    Next steps include refining objectives for each goal, discussing action plans, and attaching enrollment numbers to each goal

 

 

Report from Comprehensive University Group – Dr. Zvi Szafran

 

·    The term “comprehensive University” was defined and has been posted on the Strategic Planning forum web site.

·    4 areas of growth possibilities include: (1) Education, (2) Psychology (Industrial), (3) Music, Art, Media Tech., and (4) Health

·    It may be possible to begin teaching some courses now that will eventually be part of new majors in the future.

·    Next steps for this group include preparing proposals for 1 year from now, 3 years from now, and 5 years from now and well as determining communication strategies regarding each major (both on campus and in the community).

 

 

Report from Positive Environment Group – Bill Gruskka

 

·    Group is chaired by Dr. Ron Koger (VPSES), Mr. Patrick McCord (VPBF) and Mr. Bill Gruszka (CIO).

·    A definition of “Positive Environment” and updates regarding group progress can be found on the Strategic Planning forum website.

·    Group defined three objectives: (1) establish transparent communication, (2) create “golden rule” operation, (3) increase collaboration between departments. Also noted was that an attractive physical environment was important to support the three objectives.

·    Comment was made from the Task Force that a 4th objective should be added discussing the importance of student life on campus. Group chairs agreed to make the addition.

·    Next steps for Group include creating action plans for three objectives.
