Use of Results by Course

1.    Please briefly explain which learning outcomes were met (please list these by number and through a brief description), and then also analyze what the results of the assessment process revealed.    

 

 

• Demonstrate the ability to analyze plays intended to be performed before a live audience.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship of the drama to the historical and political atmosphere of the time
• Demonstrate critical and perceptual skills that enhance the enjoyment of theatre.

Sampled student work demonstrated achievement of all three learning outcomes, although assessment of learning outcome #3 was margin (71% against a benchmark of 70%). For the most part, this course is quite successful in helping students achieve the University general education outcome of demonstrating an ability to make informed aesthetic judgments about the arts, such as visual, performing, and literary.

3.    Please briefly summarize and comment on how you think you may use these assessment results. 

 

Learning outcome #3 was measured against a test score; in future course assessments, faculty might consider measurements that are less recall-driven and more integrative and interpretive. Assessment of Area C2 courses pointed out a significant lack in organizational structure; since we currently have just one instructor teaching ARTS 2002, there is no easy way to coordinate a curriculum subcommittee. Starting in Fall, 2008, faculty teaching various Area C2 courses will meet regularly to coordinate how ARTS 2001, ARTS 2002, and ARTS 2003 articulate the University’s general education outcomes. Faculty will complete individual course assessment forms each semester as a part of the ongoing course assessment process. The Area C2 curriculum subcommittee will perform a formal course assessment during the 2011-2012 academic year.

 

 

 

 

 

*Planned Use of Results   Please list the dates of assessment committee meetings.   Since ARTS 2002 is taught by a single instructor, there were no scheduled assessment committee meetings in 2007-2008. The ARTS 2002 instructor did meet with the ETCMA Department Chair on several occasions to coordinate the course assessment.             Please explain how faculty will use the results.   Learning Outcome #3 will be assessed in fall, 2008 using a more interpretive and integrative measure, such as a written report based on a live performance of a play. Area C2 Curriculum Subcommittee will meet early in fall, 2008 for the first time. Area C2 Curriculum Subcommittee will perform a formal course assessment during the 2011-2012 academic year.
