  1. Demonstrate an ability to analyze and interpret oral and written arguments and materials;
  2. Demonstrate an ability to write and communicate effectively in various modes and media.

70%  of the portfolios/collections will show evidence of writing for different rhetorical situations

Professors in 13 of the 23 sections of ENGL 1101 taught in fall, 2007 collected writing portfolios from student # 1, 5, & 15 on the class roll (a random sample of three students from an average class size of 23). This method yielded a total sample of 39 students out of 483 who completed the course (8%). A curriculum subcommittee evaluated each portfolio, rating it satisfactory/unsatisfactory.

100% (39 out of 39) of student portfolios showed evidence of writing for different rhetorical situations.
