Graduate Students at SPSU The Fall 1999 Enrollment at Southern Polytechnic State University
included 620 graduate students. §
In Fall 1998, 15% of the student population was
graduate students. In Fall 1999, it had grown to 17%. ·
The number of full-time graduate students increased by 14%. ·
The number of part-time graduate students increased by 9%. ·
55% were male (an increase of 3%), 45% female (an increase of 20%). ·
45% were white, 38% non-resident aliens (up 34%), 12% black (up
10%), 4% Asian (up 26%), 1% Hispanic. §
Of the three types of new students (freshman,
transfer and graduate) graduate was the only one to increase from 1998 to
1999 (from 112 to 137 or 22%.) §
However, the student credit hours taken by graduate
students decreased by 7%. (undergraduate credit hours decreased by 1%.) §
173 graduate degrees were conferred in 1998-1999, a
decrease of 10% from the prior year. §
Comparing enrollment by majors (both graduate and
post-baccalaureate) from Fall 1998 to Fall 1999, there was a ·
27% increase in Professional and Technical Communication ·
22 % increase in Computer Science ·
1% decrease in Management ·
9% decrease in Quality Assurance ·
22% decrease in Construction ·
28% decrease in Engineering Technology Satisfaction with SPSU Graduate student respondents to the ACT College Outcomes Survey
were significantly more satisfied with aspects of SPSU than Undergraduates
with SPSU's: §

Personal security §
Social activities Their level of agreement with the following statements was
significantly higher than for undergraduates: §
SPSU is equally supportive of women and men. §
SPSU is equally supportive of all racial/ethnic
groups. §
SPSU welcomes and uses feedback from students to
improve the university.
