7 Principles

Teaching Principles

The 7 Principles of Good Teaching were developed by Chickering and Gamson in 1987 as a result of over 50 years of research. They are based on a learner-centered approach which suggests that students learn best when they talk about their learning and apply it, that students need opportunities to perform and need frequent feedback, and that they learn in a variety of ways. This has inspired universities across the country to rethink their teaching/learning strategies. Today these principles are used as a benchmark for instructional improvement.
