What is TTLS?
While no wireless network is truly secure, TTLS or
Tunneled TLS is among the most secure and easy to maintain forms of wireless
security. It functions in much
the same way as encrypted web pages do on the Internet. Its security stems from its use of strong,
signed SSL certificates as well as from the use of “tumbling keys”
– you exchange new encryption credentials with the wireless network
every few minutes to avoid eavesdroppers cracking your encrypted session.
Do I have to use SecureW2 to access Hornet Wireless?
No. We
provide instructions and support for SecureW2, but it is far from the only
available option. Microsoft®
Windows® products do not natively include TTLS authentication, but
there are many 3rd party options for enabling TTLS
authentication and encryption.
You can use whatever client you wish – but we can provide the
best support if you download and install the package we provide.
Many Intel® Centrino® based
laptops include their own TTLS client within the wireless card driver. Recent Macintosh and Linux operating
systems include TTLS support natively.
Juniper Networks® and Cisco Networks® also provide
commercial TTLS clients.
