The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) concentration on Information Security and Assurance (ISA) offered by School of Computing and Engineering, Department of Information Technology provides a solid foundation of knowledge and skills to enable our students to apply computing technology effectively to security and information assurance. Students graduating with ISA concentration will have a strong background in fundamental principles and applications of computer security and information assurance, as well as hands-on experience with security tools commonly used in industry.
Our curriculum is designed to cover both technical issues and administrative functions. Students will gain both theory overviews and hands-on experiences with the necessary tools and technologies. In order to have an Information Security and Assurance (ISA) concentration, students should choose at least three courses from the the following:
(1) IT 4823 Information Security Administration (required)
(2) IT 4843 Ethical Hacking
(3) IT 4833 Wireless Security
(4) IT 4853 Computer Forensics
The Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) offers the curriculum for advanced students who want to specialize in information security and assurance. Graduate students will be prepared to be ready to work in the area of information security through the key elements of general and technical aspects of information security.
Our curriculum provides the knowledge of the general information security and its legal, privacy and ethical issues. We also provide technical knowledge of security in programming,database, network and system.
Graduate Certificate Program in Information Security and Assurance
Information security and assurance is one of the fastest-growing areas in information technology and information management. It is the foundation of enterprise decision-making and reliable business processes. The Graduate Certificate in Information Security and Assurance provides a systematic approach to establishing, managing, and operating a comprehensive information assurance program. This program identifies and evaluates detailed strategies for defining information security and establishing information assurance goals. It prepares students for a variety of positions such as ISO (information security officers), security managers, operational managers, systems and network managers, legal professionals, risk managers, information professionals in banking and finance, public health and health care, etc. concerning security awareness and incident response to system compromise, as well as defense strategies, configuration management, and legal issues.
The Information Security and Assurance (ISA) Graduate Certificate Program is designed for IT professionals who have a bachelor’s degree and have undertaken the Graduate Transition Certificate in Information Technology (or the equivalent through other coursework) to advance their knowledge in the field of information security and assurance.
Students graduating with this program will have a strong background in fundamental principles and applications of computer security and information assurance, as well as hands-on experience with security tools commonly used in industry.
Candidates must complete the three core courses in Information Security and Assurance and three elective courses for a total of 18 credits.
