Vision

Information technology is vital to SPSU’s growth and development. Protecting privacy and critical data of information system users becomes imperative to fostering the use of information technology.  

Mission

CISE realizes that strong information security is essential to achieve SPSU’s goal as a Georgia’s Technology University.

  • Develop new information security curriculum for multiple disciplines at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Create new concentrations in multiple engineering and technology disciplines.
  • Conduct I-SAFE (Information Security Awareness For Everyone) employee training.
  • Reinforce the positive image of SPSU as Georgia’s Technology University.
  • Educate traditional and non-traditional students in information assurance and security in response to IT and information security workforce needs and demands.
  • Conduct research and development in information assurance and security.
  • To be designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAEIAE).

CISE Charter

Purpose:
The Center for Information Security Education (CISE) at Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) brings together researchers with diverse expertise to address, in partnership with industry, government offices in information assurance and security, local and national institutions, the complex, interdisciplinary challenges in cyber security and information assurance. In particular, it will:

  • Develop new information assurance and security curriculum for multiple disciplines at both undergraduate and graduate levels;
  • Create new concentrations in information assurance and security in a range of engineering and technology programs offered at Southern Polytechnic State University.
  • Educate traditional and non-traditional students in information assurance and security in response to IT and information security workforce needs and demands.
  • Conduct I-SAFE (Information Security Awareness For Everyone) employee training.
  • Reinforce the positive image of SPSU as Georgia's Technology University.
  • Conduct research and development in information assurance and security, and information assurance and security education.

Administration:

 

CISE is administered by the Chair of the Department of Information Technology in the School of Computing and Software Engineering (CSE) or his or her nominee. The duties of the administrator are

 

  1. To hold regular meetings of individuals associated with CISE;
  2. To oversee curriculum development in the area of information assurance and security;
  3. To assess the adequacy of the information assurance and security curriculum through a variety of measures, including but not limited to input from the industry advisory boards for the SPSU programs covering information assurance and security;
  4. To ensure that the CISE web site (http://cise.spsu.edu) is maintained and regularly updated and provides information on

 

  • Individuals associated with CISE;
  • The various educational programs in information assurance and security offered at SPSU, including, but not limited to, degree programs, courses in degree programs, security awareness workshops, and other outreach activities;
  • Ongoing research projects in the area of information assurance and security;
  • Resources on information assurance and security and information assurance and security education;
  • Activities undertaken by CISE.
