for January 10, 2007
Prof. Atkins 20:05:26
The chat room is closed for this evening. It will reopen again next Wednesday
at 7:30 pm.
Weaver 20:03:32
Thanks, and good night.
Chris Wellman 20:03:23
Good night all.
Chris Wellman 20:02:58
Thanks Professor, I will sign out. Good night, talk to you next week.
Prof. Atkins 20:02:29
If there are no other questions, we can close the chat room for this evening.
Michael Ginn 20:02:24
No questions that I can think of! Have a good night everyone!
Prof. Atkins 20:02:08
Chris Wellman:
Any student may send a question to my yahoo
email address at any time during the semester.
Chris Wellman 20:01:25
Professor, cannot think of any more questions, If I do can I send them to your
Yahoo account?
Romero 20:00:44
Thank you. I have a better understanding of how to use this chat tool and the
process to be used for the chat session. Talk to you all next week! Good night!
Chris Wellman 19:58:40
Thanks.
Prof. Atkins 19:58:10
Chris Wellman:
Each Thursday the chat room transcript will be
available on the course web site. That transcript will remain on the course web
site until the end of the semester. You may simply read the transcript, or
download the transcript, or print a hard copy of the transcript as you see fit.
Prof. Atkins 19:56:06
Romero:
The chat room participation question will be a
discussion type question. It will NOT be a research type question. The Module
Assignment questions are Research type questions because you have a lot of time
to research the answers. However in the chat room you only have thirty-minutes
so you will need to simple discuss the question based on your existing level of
knowledge.
Weaver 19:54:16
Thanks. Wasn't sure if it had to be a .txt file, or if the special formatting
in MS Word would scramble things up.
Prof. Atkins 19:53:29
Chris Wellman,
Yes. The Bossert textbook will be used
exclusively for the first part of the course. When we complete the entire
Bossert textbook, then we will switch to the other book.
Chris Wellman 19:53:06
Professor, can we download old chat sessions?
Prof. Atkins 19:52:28
Weaver,
The only limit to your response is the
thirty-minute deadline. Most students prefer to type their answers into a
Microsoft WORD file and then copy and paste that answer into the Message window
above and then click the [POST] button.
Weaver 19:50:59
Will the system allow the answer to be written in, say, Notepad, and then
pasted into the Message Box?
Prof. Atkins 19:50:33
Romero:
Each student will need to answer the chat room
question ONE time and then post an answer. You do NOT need to respond to the
answers posted by the other students. However, you should read their answers to
add to your knowledge about the topic under discussion.
Romero 19:50:09
Should we treat the weekly chat question as an essay question to receive full
credit?
Chris Wellman 19:50:08
Thanks.
Prof. Atkins 19:49:16
Weaver:
Yes, the first chapter of the Bossert textbook
which is the reading assignment prior to the first chat room participation
session.
Chris Wellman 19:48:57
Professor, in the Syllabus. You have a table under modules with chapters, are
those from Bossert?
Michael Ginn 19:48:41
Weaver, FNGP is short for Freudenberg-Nok general partnership.
Weaver 19:48:38
Any guidelines on the length of the answer? Is there a limit on the number of
characters that the textbox can take?
Prof. Atkins 19:48:11
Chris Wellman,
Yes. This chat room is entirely 100% text.
Romero 19:47:39
Do you expect for us to have an interactive discussion once we have answered
our question or do we simply answer and read other students answers?
Weaver 19:47:08
That's chapter one of Bossert, correct?
Brad McGuire 19:46:55
No questions, thanks and good night!
Chris Wellman 19:46:51
Professor, this is my first experience with this format, this room will
strictly be text?
Prof. Atkins 19:45:11
This first chat room session is voluntary. Each student may leave the chat room
at any time. To exit the chat room click the [Leave] button.
If you have a specific question about this
course then you may ask it at this time.
The chat room next Wednesday is NOT voluntary
and I will be asking ONE question from Chapter One in the textbook. You will
have 30 minutes to compose an answer to that question and post it in this chat
room.
Each week each student may exit the chat room
when they have completed the assignment for that week and after they have
received an answer to any question that the student may have. Students are NOT
required to remain in the chat room after they have answered the chat room
participation question for that week.
A complete transcript of each chat room session
will be posted on the internet web site each Thursday.
