Preparing to Graduate

As you are getting close to graduating, you need to be aware of the paperwork requirements. Here's what you need to do:

First

You must complete and submit a formal petition for Admission to Candidacy for a Degree to our department in accordance with the published deadline. All fall semester petitions for students not in school summer should be made in the spring semester of that year.

To petition to graduate you need to meet the following requirements:

  • Completed or currently completing all course requirements for the degree.
  • Attained a cumulative scholastic average of at least 3.00 (for all graduate degree programs)

Then you will need to do the following:

  1. Download the formal petition Admission to Candidacy for a Degree.
  2. Complete the petition.
  3. Pay a $40 graduation fee at the Business Office (Norton Hall, Bldg. V).
Note: if you are a distance learning student, you can mail the fee. Contact Donna McPherson for information about how to do this.
  4. After you have paid the graduation fee, return the completed petition to our department program office.
  5. We will certify that the petition is correct and in good order; then forward it to the Office of Graduation Audits and Records.
  6. The Records Office will do final certification and mail a copy to you.

Planning to participate in graduation?

If you're planning to participate in graduation — and we certainly hope you will if you can — you will need to get in touch with Brenda Farrell to let her know, so that she will have a printed diploma ready for you to receive. You can email Brenda Farrell or call at 678-915-7295. She will also be able to tell you about how to order your cap and gown via the university bookstore.

If you do not plan to participate in graduation, your diploma will be sent to you by U.S. mail.
