Master's Thesis Option
A master's thesis is a formal research paper that provides an opportunity to work individually with an IDC professor and contributes to the body of research in information design and communication. It is written in a lucid, readable style; and conforms to APA style guidelines.
Advantages
Writing a master's thesis is decidedly the toughest way to graduate from the program. It generally involves more effort and time than the other graduation options. But it also offers several advantages that you should carefully consider.
Writing a master's thesis can:
- Help you gain entrance into Ph.D. programs
- Help you become an expert in an area of technical communication
- Serve as a basis for publishable articles
Registering for Thesis Credits
You typically register for 3 hours of thesis credit per semester during the first two semesters you are working on your thesis. If you do not complete your thesis in two semesters, you then register for one hour or two hours of thesis credit during each succeeding semester until you complete your thesis.
Rule: You must complete your thesis within five semesters.
Credit and grading
You receive a grade of IP for all the hours of thesis credit that you register for. When you satisfactorily complete your thesis, your thesis advisor will change each IP to an S.
