Dr. Michele Shauf is an Assistant Professor of Technical Communication and Information Design. She joined the Humanities and Technical Communication Department at SPSU in the fall of 2005, after five years in communications consulting and seven years teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Shauf received her Ph.D. in 1997 from the University of Delaware with specializations in semiotics and communications media. An electronic media pioneer, she was the first doctoral candidate in the country to submit a humanities dissertation in multimedia rather than book form.As a practitioner, Dr. Shauf consults with corporations, small businesses, and non-profits to design and execute internal and external communication strategies. Her client list includes Cingular Wireless, White Oak Financial, ValueOptions, the Georgia Civil Justice Foundation, and the Enterprise Foundation. She has also served on the graduate faculty of Information Design and Technology at the Georgia Institute of Technology.Shauf is the senior editor of Computers, Ethics, and Society, a college-level anthology published by Oxford University Press, and the author of articles on pedagogy, new media, and communication. Her articles on internal communication— recognizing employee achievement and designing a new–employee orientation—are available through Microsoft's Work Essentials for Professionals library.
