Dick Hahn
received his B.A. degree (Cum Laude) in Speech from Indiana State and his M.A.
in Rhetoric and Public Address from
Northwestern
University where he served as an assistant debate coach for a team that won the
national championship. He then joined the faculty at Florida State University where he taught speech, argumentation, and business communications while
serving as head debate coach for the four years he was there. His next
four years were spent at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology where he was
Assistant Director of Development and Assistant Professor of Speech.
He left
academics to work for Cummins Engine Company, a six billion dollar
international manufacturer of diesel engines. At Cummins, he held
management positions in Corporate Communications, Public Relations, Human
Resources, and Field Sales and Services where he ultimately served as
Division Vice President.
In 1988,
he left Cummins to go out on his own as a full-time speaker and seminar
leader. During the next ten years he spoke at association conventions,
sales meetings, and corporate functions in 37 states and 5 Canadian
provinces. As time permitted, he also taught occasional classes at SPSU
and Oglethorpe University. He joined the SPSU faculty on a full-time basis
in the fall of 1998. In the spring of 2004 he received the SPSU Student
Government Teacher of the Year award, and was presented with one of five
Outstanding Faculty awards by SPSU in the spring of 2005.
Outside
of school, Dick has been involved with youth soccer as a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) certified
referee and a long-time coach who was named Georgia Youth Soccer
Association Coach of the Year in 1990. He has also coached the Southern Poly
club soccer team which plays club teams from other colleges and
universities in the Southeast.
