James Werner is Assistant Professor of Visual and Media Arts in the English, Technical Communication, and Media Arts Department.. He earned his Doctorate of Education in the College Teaching of Art from Columbia University, Teachers College, with a focus on critical theory in fine art and new media. He also holds a Masters in Fine Art from The Kent Institute of Art and Design in England. His academic research focuses on the influences of technology and new media on fine art and its impact on contemporary culture. James has been awarded grants for his research from the Spencer Foundation for Research, and the Research Development Initiative in Scotland. He is currently a contributing editor to Spaces – Journal of Arts and Humanities, hosted by Columbia University, and publishes regularly.
James is also a practicing artist working with various mediums including installation, sculpture and digital media. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally.
