Melissa Weaver joined the SPSU team in the fall of 2007. She earned a bachelors degree in speech pathology from the University of Tennessee in 2000, and a Masters degree in Communication from the University of Tennessee in 2003. During her undergraduate career she focused on communication as well as science courses to earn her degree, and her graduate course work focused specifically on communication.
Prior to joining the team at Southern Polytechnic State University Melissa worked as an adjunct faculty member at both Kennesaw State University and North Metro Technical College. In addition, she taught public speaking courses at Bridgeway Christian Academy in Alpharetta, Georgia. These positions allowed her to lecture, interact with students, and prepare course materials on a daily basis.
Prior to accepting these positions she was the Chief Marketing Officer for Wellness One of Duluth. This position allowed her to use communication skills to prepare educational seminars and training classes for potential clients. Additionally, she worked cooperatively with doctors to implement effective discipline and work strategies to help educate the public about health and wellness as well as how the human body functions. In addition, Melissa has two years of graduate teaching experience from the University of Tennessee. As a graduate teaching assistant, she planned and implemented educational programs for introductory classes within the speech communication department, and taught four sections of public speaking. At the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia she served as a research assistant for a branch chief. During her stay at the CDC she worked on a paper for the President of the United States, gave presentations, and helped plan conferences, meetings, and various other events.
Currently, Melissa lives in Cumming Georgia with her husband and two miniature beagles. They enjoy traveling, playing golf and a variety of other activities.
