Kim Haimes-Korn is a Professor of English and Director of the Composition Program here at Southern Polytechnic State University. She holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. from Florida State University with areas of concentration in Rhetoric and Composition and African-American Literature. Her B.A. degree is in the areas of Humanities and Communication.

Much of Dr. Haimes-Korn's scholarship in the field focuses on classroom inquiry and draws upon student voices to understand writing theory and practices. She writes on portfolios, response theory, collaborative learning, visual literacies and multicultural pedagogies. She is interested in the multiple layers of language and experiences students bring to their writing lives.  Dr. Haimes-Korn is the author of numerous articles in the field of composition.  Her most recent book project, Portfolios for Technical and Professional Communicators (Prentice Hall, 2007), co-authored with Herb Smith, reflects her work with students in their TCOM degree programs along with her interest in composition theory and practice.  The book celebrates students’ work in their senior capstone course, Project Portfolio (TCOM 4800). She also is an active member of the associations of her field and presents regularly at the Conference for College Composition and Communication and the National Council of Teachers of English.

Dr. Haimes-Korn currently teaches in both the graduate and undergraduate Humanities and Technical Communication degree programs. Her classes include: Composition (I and II), African-American Literature, American Literature, Rhetoric, and Writer's Workshop and Project Portfolio. She has also developed courses for the computer writing classroom in which students creatively integrate the processes of writing with technology. In addition to her teaching, Dr. Haimes-Korn also conducts teacher-training workshops towards professional development and works with the writing-across-the-curriculum programs at SPSU and other universities. Dr. Haimes-Korn's teaching philosophy encourages dynamic learning and focuses on students' powers to create their own knowledge through language.

Her teaching portfolio, which includes classroom assignments, scholarly work and her full resume of professional activities can be viewed for further information.
