Dr. Kami J. AndersonContact Information Dr. Kami J. Anderson is an Assistant Professor in the department of English, Technical Communication and Media Arts. Dr. Anderson completed doctoral work in Intercultural Communication at Howard University in Washington, DC in 2007; her dissertation is entitled, The Shifting Character of Social and Ethnic Identity among Black American Sojourners. At Southern Polytechnic State University, she teaches Public Speaking, International Communication and Business Communications. Dr. Anderson received a BA in Spanish from Spelman College and a MA in International Communication and Cultural Anthropology from the American University in Washington, DC. Dr. Anderson is a former ISEE (Institute for Scholarship in Engineering Education) fellow (2006) and has written collaborative papers on communication in the engineering classroom. She is also an Edward Alexander Bouchet Honors Scholar, a program designed to recognize the scholarly achievements of graduate students and alumni of Howard and Yale Universities. She has published extensively in both English and Spanish in scholarly and trade journals as well as in national US news publications. Dr. Anderson’s primary research focuses on the construction of identity and the current state of social identity. Her most recent research explores the construction and maintenance of the social identity of Barack Obama. She is currently member of the National Communication Association (NCA), Lambda Pi Eta Communication Honors Society, The Organization for African American Linguists and the Edward Alexander Bouchet Graduate Honor Society. Dr. Anderson has previously taught courses in Cross-Cultural Communication, Presentation and Audience, and Oral Communication for International Students. She also has a publication in process titled "Reflection as an Intergrative Role in an Engineering Capstone Experience in Connected Science." (Fleming, L. and Andedrson, K.; Trish Ferrett, ed.)
