POSITION SUMMARY

This is work at the journeyman level in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing and heating systems. Work involves performance of skilled plumbing tasks in maintaining, repairing, and servicing a variety of fixtures and equipment. Routine maintenance, service, and repair work are performed independently. Work is inspected on completion for conformity to instructions and quality of work.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.       Repairs and inserts valves and ball cocks; pack faucets; repairs waste, sewage, and drainage pipes; replaces broken fixtures and installs new fixtures’ caulks and packs joints.

2.       Installs steam and hot water heating and sprinkler systems; renews pipes, valves, and fittings on pumps. Performs swimming pool maintenance.

3.       Cleans our drains and obstructions in waste and sewage pipes.

4.       Repairs broken valves, hydrants, service pipes and drinking fountains.

5.       Operates pipe cutters, reamers, threading machines, sewer tapes and cables, and other plumbing tools and equipment.

6.       Keeps records of work and makes reports.

7.       Must be on call for seven days on a rotational basis.

8.       Occasional mandatory overtime.

9.       Performs related and other duties as required.

 

 

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

1.       Considerable knowledge of the standard tools, methods, practices, and materials of the plumbing trade.

2.       Considerable knowledge of prevailing plumbing codes.

3.       Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work.

4.       Ability to understand and work from general instructions and specifications, and to follow blueprints and sketches.

5.        Skill in the use of tools, materials and equipment used in the plumbing trade.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent with some experience as a journeyman plumber; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

 

DAYS/HOURS:  Monday – Friday; 6:00am – 2:30pm

                             

SALARY:           $11.67 - $14.58/hr.
