MAINTENANCE WORKER I (Facilities Maintenance)                                                               07–84

 

POSITION SUMMARY

 

This work requires the performance of a wide variety of miscellaneous mechanical and building trade tasks in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment and in simple construction and fabrication tasks. Work is often performed with limited supervision but is subject to inspection upon completion.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

1.                   Inspects buildings, fixtures, machines, and other structural and/or mechanical units, noting need for repair; performs minor maintenance, such as cleaning or lubricating.

2.                   Changes, washes, and cuts filters for air conditioners; checks for bad bearings; repairs, hangs, and installs Venetian blinds and window shades; installs drapery rods and hangs drapes; installs restroom accessories.

3.                   Prepares graders and sets forms for concrete pouring; finished surface by hand and by machine.

4.                   Replaces glass, screens, locks, and door latches; repairs chairs, doors, water faucets, dressers, drawers, and cabinet doors.

5.                   Installs commodes, lavatories, and urinals.

6.                   Change ballasts, smoke alarms, and light bulbs.

7.                   Issues out and receives tools; performs minor repairs on tools, machinery, and equipment; paints ladders, keeps tool room in order and clean.

8.                   Occasional mandatory overtime.

9.                   Other duties as assigned.

 

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

 

1.                   Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, equipment, and materials used in a variety of building and mechanical trades.

2.                   Some knowledge of the occupational hazards in the use of power tools, equipment, and of necessary safety precautions.

3.                   Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

4.                   Ability to diagnose malfunction and defects in mechanical and similar equipment and to determine adequate corrective measures.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Graduation from High School or equivalent; must have experience in all maintenance areas: electrical, HVAC, and plumbing or equivalent combination of training and experience.

 

SALARY:           $21,565
