INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNERS (Academic Support Center) (2 positions)      08–282 & 08 – 283

POSITION SUMMARY

These are professional exempt positions that reports to the Instructional Design Administrator of the Academic Support Center. The Instructional Designers provide direct support to faculty in the development of courses and the revision of existing courses, provides technical support to faculty at SPSU, assists with the Course Assessment process, faculty training, developing and revising instructional tools. The Instructional Designers also compile reports on course support, maintain the records of the office, and maintain the Academic Support Center web site and supports the WebCT VISTA products.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.       Applies the assessment process for online offerings using the SPSU Reviewer’s Rubric.

2.       Assists faculty with hands-on support for course development.

3.       Provides support for faculty teaching, using technologies, developing and revising courses, etc

4.       Supports online students with technical issues.

5.       Creates tutorials for faculty and students.

6.       Works with the graphic designer and web master to keep the Office of Distance Learning web site current and informative.

7.       Tracks all individual departmental work for reporting purposes.

8.       Supports the Vista and Horizon Wimba environments as needed.

9.       Trains faculty and student assistants in all instructional technologies.

10.   Writes technical procedures and software documentation.

11.   Supervises student assistants as needed.

 

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

1.       Ability to multitask and work under deadline pressures.

2.       Excellent at creating and maintaining interdepartmental liaisons and possesses excellent team building skills.

3.       Possess excellent customer service skills.

4.       Proven ability to work with experienced and new faculty.

5.       Advanced HTML editing and media production skills.

6.       Advanced knowledge of VISTA (Blackboard Vista), Georgia VIEW and/or other e-learning/instructional tools.

7.       Working knowledge of Horizon Wimba’s various products/other technology tools.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor's degree in instructional design or related field, plus two years experience in instructional design and/or distance learning or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Must have working knowledge of WebCT Vista Course Management System and/or other instructional tools and the integration of other technologies within these environments, excellent written and spoken communication skills, ability to work independently and on teams, excellent computer and desktop skills, and proven successful training experience.

 

DAYS/HOURS: Monday – Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm

 

SALARY:          Commensurate with experience
