GROUNDSKEEPER I (Facilities Services) (2 positions)                                                           08–288/289

POSITION SUMMARY

This is manual work in the performance of tasks of a physically demanding nature. Work involves the performance of tasks of a routine and/or heavy nature that may require a high degree of manipulative skill. As work experience is gained, employees may be assigned to somewhat more difficult tasks of a limited, semi-skilled nature. Work is closely supervised with the employee receiving specific instructions at the beginning of each new job. The Groundskeeper I reports to the Horticulturist.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.                   Performs unskilled laboring work digging ditches, planting and pruning trees and shrubs, cutting and edging lawns, using hand tools and power mowers.

2.                   Rakes and loads grass, leaves and brush; cleans grounds and paved areas of trash and debris; water plants and assists in the care of shrubs, flowers and grass.

3.                   Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizers and pesticides.

4.                   Performs other duties as assigned.

 

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  1. Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  2. Ability to supervise small groups of employees.
  3. Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions, interpret campus maps and basic drawings.
  4. Ability to use a variety of standard power and hand tools safely and efficiently.

5.  Must be able to perform constant, intense physical labor; move and use equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Must be able to perform duties requiring push/pull activity, hand/finger coordination, constant repetitive motion of wrist, arm and shoulder; reach climb, balance, crouch, twist and kneel; work with chemicals, dust, fumes and odors associated with grounds work and the outdoor environment; must be able to wear safety and protective equipment as needed.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the completion of the eighth grade. Some experience in grounds and landscape work. Occasional mandatory overtime. Must have a valid Georgia driver’s license.

 

 

DAYS/HOURS: Monday – Friday; 7:00am – 4:00pm

                            

 

SALARY:           $8.06/hr
