ASSISTANT PROFESSOR ENGLISH/PROFESSIONAL WRITING

POSITION SUMMARY

The English, Technical Communication, and Media Arts Department at Southern Polytechnic State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in English with a primary emphasis in Professional Writing, pending final budgetary approval. Other ranks will be considered.  SPSU (www.spsu.edu) is a member institution in the University System of Georgia, located 20 minutes northwest of downtown Atlanta, in the historic city of Marietta.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have at minimum a Master of Fine Arts or terminal Master of Arts degree in a writing discipline or a closely related field by the time of appointment (Ph.D. preferred).  Preference given to candidates with professional experience in journalism, corporate communications, science/environmental writing for lay audience, or creative non-fiction. Responsibilities include teaching 12 credit hours each semester of undergraduate English and Professional Writing courses from among the following: Introduction to Journalism, Professional Editing, Science Writing, Environmental Writing, and/or Creative Writing, plus service writing courses appropriate to the candidate’s degree. The new hire will also be take part in expanding offerings in support of our English and Professional Communication degree

SALARY: Commensurate with experience
