ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN II (Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology) 09–373

This is non-exempt, highly skilled electronics position where the Electrical Technician II is required to have a thorough knowledge of work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electronic devices, computers, and related equipment. Work involves the construction, modification, maintenance, and repair of a variety of electronic devices used for instructional purposes. An important aspect of the job is the installation and maintenance of computer hardware and software including networking. Work also includes providing support services to faculty and students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Allow students to access open labs. Check out electronic parts and kits to students. Maintain an inventory of parts for students.
2. Provide computer hardware and software support to faculty, classroom, and laboratory computers.
3. Repair, maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment in the main ECET building.
4. Track and maintain inventory of all SPSU inventory listed equipment and also non-listed equipment in the department. Maintain software documentation and licensing agreement paperwork for the department.
5. Build special projects needed by faculty. These projects may involve CAD layout work, photo and darkroom work, and metalwork.
6. Other duties as assigned.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
1. Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in the construction and repair of electronic equipment. Skill in the use of standard electronics shop tools and instruments.
2. Considerable knowledge of the principles of electronics. Ability to read and interpret complex electronic schematic and wiring diagrams.
3. Considerable knowledge of the operation and uses of electronic testing equipment, oscilloscopes, pulse and function generators, and power supplies. Considerable knowledge of the hazards and proper safety precautions of the work.
4. Considerable knowledge of computers and networking. Should be proficient with MS Office, Windows NT/XP, Linux, email and internet browsers. Some knowledge/experience with Windows 7 preferred.
5. Ability to supervise student assistants and to maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
6. Desire and ability to learn and update personal knowledge and skills in the field of electronics as advancements bring change and growth.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum two year electronic degree or equivalent work or military experience.
DAYS/HOURS: Monday – Friday; 2:00pm – 11:00pm
SALARY: $31,245 [minimum]
