POSITION SUMMARY

This is manual non-exempt work at the journeyman level in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment in various campus buildings and outside lighting systems. Work involves the installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. Work is ordinarily performed independently, subject to inspection of progress or upon completion.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.       Installs conduits, wires, pull boxes, switchboards, and switches required in making additions, extensions, or alterations in electrical systems.

2.       Services, repairs and maintains lighting, power, heating cooling, and communications systems.

3.       Repairs and replaces defective parts in motors, generators, pumps, storage batteries, switchboards, controllers, contractors, switches, and other electrical fixtures and appliances.

4.       Tests, locates, and repairs electrical troubles in electrical circuits and equipment.

5.       Estimation of materials for jobs.

6.       Supervises Electrician I and trade helpers.

7.       Set electrical panels.

8.       Runs telephone wires and cables.

9.       Performs other required duties.

 

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

1.       Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade.

2.       Considerable knowledge of local and state electrical codes.

3.       Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and diagrams.

4.       Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment of the electrical trade.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from High School or equivalent and considerable experience as a journeyman electrician or completion of a recognized apprenticeship in this line of work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Electrical license preferred. Must be on call for 7 days on a rotated basis.

 

 

DAYS/HOURS: Monday – Friday; 7:30am – 4:30pm; Occasional mandatory overtime.

                              

 

SALARY:           $14.19/hr
