DIRECTOR of HOUSING AND RESIDENCE LIFE (Auxiliary Services) 08–301

This is a professional position where the Director of Housing and Residence Life is an administrative and supervisory position responsible for all aspects of student housing, residence life and student discipline at the University. Work involves the coordination and efficient management of the student housing program in support of the educational mission of the University and the fair and consistent enforcement of the student life regulations to help maintain a campus environment conducive to learning. This position reports to the Director of Auxiliary Services.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Develops and maintains a profitable and comprehensive Housing/Residence Life program.
2. Manages the total housing operation.
3. Develops and manages room contracts and related assignments.
4. Markets the housing options and residence life programs.
5. Creates and develops long-term facility plan to include timely repair and replacement of fixtures and equipment and building components.
6. Works in cooperation with Facilities/Plant Management to ensure that housing facilities are properly maintained.
7. Works in cooperation with Business and Finance to ensure that housing payments are properly accounted for and students’ accounts are maintained efficiently.
8. Works in cooperation with the Dean of Students and Campus Police to see that Judiciary issues are dealt with fairly and promptly.
9. Supervises professional, clerical and student employees.
10. Recruits, selects, and provides orientation for all department staff.
11. Ensures all Housing/Residence Life staff receives appropriate and related training.
14. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Housing and Residence Life.
15. Serve or Chair on Campus-Wide Committees as called upon.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
1. Thorough knowledge of budget management and business principles as it relates to housing.
2. Through knowledge of student development theory and its application to higher education.
3. Thorough knowledge of higher education law and its application to students and the administration of due process in educational disciplinary context.
4. Must have strong ethical values and a well-developed sense of fairness and justice.
5. Ability to work with a wide range of people, including students, parents, faculty, administrative staff, vendors and the general public.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
8. Must have demonstrated organizational skills.
QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors degree (from an accredited college or University) in student development, student affairs, higher education administration or a related field in higher education administration or a related field required. A master’s degree in a related field preferred. A minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in administering housing and residence life programs also required.
DAYS/HOURS: Summer Hours: Monday – Thursday; 7:30am – 6:00pm; Friday - CLOSED
Monday – Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm (Regular Hours Effective: 8/11/08)
SALARY: Commensurate with experience
