ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR for STUDENT LIFE (Student Activities)                               08–296

POSITION SUMMARY

This individual is a member of the Student Affairs staff and reports directly to the Dean of Students. Work involves advising students and planning programs that contribute to an extracurricular learning experience for students which compliments and enhances the education students receive in the classroom.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.       Advises the Campus Activities Board and attends their events.

2.       Coordinates the Cultural Series, Student Leadership and Volunteer programs.

3.       Coordinates Southern Polytechnic State University’s Journey and Orientation programs.

4.       Serves as advisor to Southern Polytechnic State University social fraternities and sororities and a variety of other student organizations.

5.       Assists in the operation of the Joe Mack Wilson Student Center.

6.       Conducts assessment and evaluation of Student Activities department services and programs.

7.       Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

1. Working knowledge of theories of college student development.

2. Working knowledge of student activities issues and trends.

3. Desires to work with college students using student development theories in practice.

4. Ability to assess programming needs of campus and assess effectiveness.

5. Basic computer skills are desirable.

6. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  A master's degree in student affairs administration or related field is required. Some activities programming experience on a college campus is also required. Basic level of proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and e-mail are also required. Membership and participation in professional organizations are encouraged. Knowledge of theories of college student development; working knowledge of student activities issues and trends; ability to assess campus programming needs and effectiveness are all highly desirable. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills are essential.

 

 

SALARY:  Commensurate with experience

 

 

DAYS/HOURS:  Monday – Friday; 9:00am – 6:00pm
