POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Director is a full-time, exempt position which reports to and provides assistance to the Senior Director of Facilities Management in the management of personnel, finances, equipment, and in the implementation of programs and policies related to the maintenance of campus buildings and grounds. Will assist in the direction of all housekeeping services for the campus and monitor the campus utility operations as well as the mechanical, electrical, and structural maintenance programs for the building and utility systems. The individual will also assist in managing materials and financial resources for the departments within Facilities.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.       Assume full responsibility for Facilities Management in the absence of the Director, with authority over all other department managers. In the absence of the Director, act as the principal representative for the department on Facilities Management operational matters and serve as the institutional representative to professional organizations.

2.       Assist the Director in making decisions, evaluating, formulating, and making suggestions for the changing of departmental policies, procedures, and goals. Meet with various committees as designated by the Director, and substitute for the Director, as required, at various meetings. Represent the department on ongoing campus committees.

  1. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the maintenance and grounds departments. Will work with and through the Supervisors in the accomplishment of the department's mission.
  2. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the cleaning of all facilities. Will work with and through the Custodial Supervisor in the accomplishment of the department's mission.
  3. Review work assignments, schedules, service programs, procedures, and practices, and make improvements as needed.
  4. Responsible for annual facilities audit and inventory of all facilities, systems, and equipment for which the department is responsible.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

 

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  1. Familiarity with campus master planning process. Ability to manage and motivate a diverse workforce.
  2. Possess excellent oral communication skills in order to present information and respond to questions from students, employees, and the general public in one-on-one or group situations.
  3. Ability to write business correspondence and procedure manuals plus compose memos, letters, and emails. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
  4. Knowledge in using the Microsoft Office Suite Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  5. Ability to move or lift up to 40 pounds of weight.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors’ degree from an accredited institution in mechanical engineering, architecture, facilities management, construction management or a related area required.  Two to four years of related work experience required.  Public, college or university experience preferred.  Good organization skills are critical.  Strong communications and presentation skills strongly preferred.

 

DAYS/HOURS: Monday – Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm

 

SALARY:           Commensurate with experience
