Capstone and Thesis Class Options Depending Upon Major Field

Honors students will take part in either a thesis or a capstone course depending upon their major field.  Below is a list of SPSU Major Fields partnered with the field's honors capstone experience.  The Honors Program suggests that all Honors students take their capstone or thesis work their second-to-last semester so that they ensure they have time to complete their work before graduating.

 

Honors Capstones by Major

School Of Architecture and Civil Engineering Technology and Construction
Architecture	Honors Diploma Project Research, ARCH 5593 and Honors Thesis Design, ARCH 5999T	The addition of a second site for analysis--students begin thinking of options in the research class and complete full thesis in the final class.
Civil Engineering Technology	Honors Senior Project, CET 4120	While honors students will still work in teams, they are responsible for an individual project for their capstone paper assignment.
Construction Management	Honors Capstone Project, CM 4900	Honors students should add a five-page introduction to the current CM capstone paper.
School of Computing and Software Engineering
Computer Science	Honors Thesis, HNRS 4400**	Students will research and write a thesis.
Software Engineering	Honors Thesis, HNRS 4400**	Students will research and write a thesis.
Computer Game Design and Development	Honors Thesis, HNRS 4400**	Students will research and write a thesis.
Information Technology	Honors Thesis, HNRS 4400**	Students will research and write a thesis.
School of Engineering Technology and Management
Apparel and Textiles: Fashion Design and Product Management		While honors students will still work in teams, they are responsible for an individual project for their capstone paper assignment.
Computer Engineering Technology	Honors ECET Capstone Version or Honors ECET Special Topics Course**	Students taking a capstone class will do an individual project and write a paper on that project.  Students taking a special topics class will research a project and write a paper.
Electrical Engineering Technology	Honors ECET Capstone Version or Honors ECET Special Topics Course**	Students taking a capstone class will do an individual project and write a paper on that project.  Students taking a special topics class will research a project and write a paper.
Telecommunications Engineering Technology	Honors ECET Capstone Version or Honors ECET Special Topics Course**	Students taking a capstone class will do an individual project and write a paper on that project.  Students taking a special topics class will research a project and write a paper.
Industrial Engineering Technology	Honors Senior Project, IET 4475	While honors students will still work in teams, they are responsible for an individual project for their capstone paper assignment.
Business Administration	Honors Thesis, HNRS 4400**  Take 2nd-to-last semester.	Students will research and write a thesis.
Accounting	Honors Thesis, HNRS 4400**, Take 2nd-to-last semester.	Students will research and write a thesis.
Mechanical Engineering Technology	Honors Machine Design I, MET 4141**	While honors students will still work in teams, they are responsible for an individual project for their capstone paper assignment.
School of Arts and Sciences
English and Professional Communication	Honors Project Portfolio, TCOM 4800	Honors students write a research paper in conjunction with the portfolio project.  Honors students should find an adviser who specializes in their topic of interest for the paper.
Technical Communication	Honors Project Portfolio, TCOM 4800	Honors students write a capstone paper in conjunction with their final mathematics project
Mathematics	Honors Capstone Mathematics, MATH 4451	Honors students write a research paper in conjunction with the portfolio project.  Honors students should find an adviser who specializes in their topic of interest for the paper.
Biology	Honors Thesis, HNRS 4400**	Students will research and write a thesis.
Chemistry	Honors Thesis, HNRS 4400**	Students will research and write a thesis.
Physics	Honors Thesis, HNRS 4400**	Students will research and write a thesis.
