Career planning

The Career and Counseling Center provides career counseling and job placement services to all current Southern Polytechnic students and SPSU alumni free of charge. The Center has been very successful in placing students in internships and co-op positions and helping students and alumni to find their ideal jobs.

Services
The Career and Counseling Center offers a range of services, including resume development, interview preparation, resume referral, on-campus interviewing, stress management, and career testing. We also offer academic counseling services for students who are having trouble with their coursework.

Co-ops and internships
Each year, the Career and Counseling Center places students in co-op and internship positions with local and regional businesses. These positions help students gain hands-on experience while they are in school and help them decide what career to pursue upon graduation from SPSU.

Our students have co-oped and interned with companies such as Lucent Technologies, BellSouth Communications, Yamaha Motors, C.W. Matthews, Atlanta Gas Light, and the IBM Corporation. Most positions are paid, and students earn $1,800 - $2,000 or more each month.

Job placement services
The Career and Counseling Center is dedicated to helping all SPSU students find employment after graduation. Each year, we invite a number of companies to conduct on-campus interviews with our student body, and we maintain an updated listing of employers who have hired Southern Polytechnic graduates.

Our graduates are highly sought because they have received a quality technology-oriented education and are prepared to enter the work force as capable employees. On average, graduates make starting salaries that exceed $43,000, depending upon their majors at SPSU. Many begin at salaries of $45,000 and $50,000.
