Dux Sy
Bachelor of Science, Telecommunications Engineering Technology 2000
What are you doing now?
As Managing Partner of Quantumx, an IT services company, I travel a lot throughout the country.
I train groups of 15-30 people on a specific technology such as how to build a web site or an
e-commerce site. I'm also President and CEO of Tsinoy.com and an instructor with Learning Tree
International.
How did Southern Poly prepare you for these challenges?
All of my tech and math courses laid the groundwork for me to teach the newer technologies that
are emerging now. As president of the honors society, I got to interact with many different
people, which especially helps me train people whose skills are at different levels.
Describe your best experience as a Southern Poly student.
The program to study in Germany for a whole summer. I attended school there and stayed with a
German family, which immersed me in the culture.
Did you also work?
Yes, as a web consultant and developer. I've produced sites for non-profits and educational,
corporate, and micro-business clients.
What are your future plans?
The world is getting smaller every day. I want to take the network I've built and perhaps look
for clients in China or help people there market their products here.
If you could advise an incoming student, what would you say?
Education is not limited to the four corners of the classroom. You have to look at being able to
interact with people. Get to know your teacher and fellow students, and it will help reinforce
your learning.
