Getting the complete package

After receiving my Associates Degree from Cleveland State Community College in Tennessee, I transferred to Southern Poly.  One of the first things I noticed about the campus was the diversity.  It was nice to see that international students and minorities were well represented and active on campus.  SPSU offered me an opportunity to obtain my Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field, stay close to my family in Atlanta and also continue my athletic career on the women’s basketball team.

Work experience

Right now, I have two jobs.  I am in the Air Force Reserves with Security Forces and stationed at Dobbins ARB in Marietta, GA.  I also work on-campus as a student assistant in the Civil Engineering Department.  I enjoy both jobs a lot.

My best class

English 1101 has been my best class so far because it taught me to think differently about writing.  What I had learned in high school and at my previous college went right out the window.  I really enjoyed utilizing the writing lab during class to create my projects as opposed to writing them out on paper first.  I liked it so much, that I have joined the staff of The Sting, our campus newspaper.

Favorite extra-curricular activity

Intramural sports allow you to stay involved in sports even if you aren’t on one of the inter-collegiate teams.   Plus, you get to meet lots of new people and it is a great way to keep that college tummy burned off!

How to succeed

Take advantage of the family atmosphere here at SPSU and get to know people on campus.  The more people you know on campus, the easier it is to solve any problems you have whether it is creating a study group or getting help from the professor.  It just makes it simpler and more enjoyable.  And, ask a lot of questions.  The more you ask, the more you learn.

Fun times

CAB (Campus Activity Board) had an event at the Rec. Center during Welcome Week so I went after class.  The gym was full of all different types of inflatable games. Not only did I have fun and get to relax for a while, but I was able to meet 4 new people.
