On-campus activities
All together, more than 40 on-campus organizations make SPSU an
exciting place to be. Stop by the Student Center any time during
the day or evening, and you're sure to find a club meeting, a
special event or a radio broadcast taking place. With all of
these activities, you may have a hard time not being involved!
For more information about any of these campus organizations,
call the Student Activities Office at 678-915-7374.
Fraternities and sororities
Much of our social activity revolves around our nine Greek organizations, which include six
fraternities and three sororities. Students find that becoming involved in a Greek organization
helps them develop friendships that will last them a lifetime, as well as a sense of philanthropy
and service to the community. The Greek organizations at SPSU regularly sponsor social activities
for the entire campus, as well.
Student organizations
Student-run organizations like student government and media, honor societies, academic teams,
and leadership programs are very popular among SPSU students. Other programs such as the Cultural
Series bring speakers and performers to the SPSU campus to entertain and inform students, faculty,
and staff members.
Student government
The Student Government Organization, an elected group of students, represents the student body
on important campus issues and allocates funds received through student activity fees. The Campus
Activity Board plans a variety of entertainment events on campus each year.
Student media
The campus radio station, WGHR, and The Sting, SPSU's online student newspaper, keep all
SPSU students current on news and culture, while providing students the opportunity to gain
broadcast, management, technical, and editorial experience.
Honor societies
SPSU has chapters of four academic honor societies as well: Tau Alpha Pi (engineering
technology), Sigma Lambda Chi (construction), Delta Mu Delta (business), and Phi Psi (apparel
textile). These organizations promote scholarship among their members and honor academic
achievement and adept leadership.
The Honors Program
The SPSU Honors Program provides academically talented
students the opportunity to develop their talents and skills in an expanded and enriched curriculum.
It features seminar-size classes that demand intellectual rigor.
