VA benefits
If you are a United States veteran with VA benefits and are enrolled in a degree program at SPSU,
you may be eligible to receive payment from the VA for tuition. Here are some notes you should
make if you wish to apply for VA benefits:
- You are responsible for paying your tuition up front. Once classes begin and your attendance
has been certified, you will begin receiving monthly payments.
- Your first check will usually arrive within two or three weeks of the time that you begin
classes.
- The VA pays for you to attend classes. If you withdraw from a class, the VA no longer pays
for it. If you make an "F" in a class, the VA continues to pay as long as you attend the class.
- You must take at least six hours to remain certified -- if you take less than six hours,
your certification will expire at the end of the term.
- If you are enrolled in at least six hours each term and remain continuously enrolled, you
should receive monthly payments. Students who are enrolled in less than six hours are considered
less than 1/2 time and will not receive a monthly payment.
- The VA will not cover classes that do not apply to your degree.
