The Telecommunications Engineering Technology program

Why study Telecommunications Engineering Technology at SPSU?
The ever-increasing popularity of the Internet combined with advances in communications software and hardware has spawned great demand for individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to design, implement, and maintain computer networking systems of all types. The Telecommunications Engineering Technology program at Southern Polytechnic is designed to provide students with the theoretical and practical knowledge they need to meet this demand.

About the program
The degree program is based upon a core of mathematics, physics, and electronics courses that provide the scientific and technical background required for an in-depth understanding of system hardware and software. Building upon this core, students immerse themselves in several telecommunications-related courses to gain a holistic perspective of the industry. Although students are entitled to earn the telecommunications degree, this program covers all aspects of modern computer networking as well as management.

The faculty
The faculty are graduates of some of the country's most prestigious technological institutions, and have spent years working in computer networking and related fields. In addition to teaching, they pursue scholarly endeavors by publishing their own work.

Are there learning opportunities outside the classroom?
The Telecommunications Engineering Technology faculty highly encourages students to participate in internship and cooperative programs. In addition, professional clubs, conferences, and speaking series provide students with additional experience in their major and possibly their future careers.

What can I do with a Telecommunications Engineering Technology degree?
With a degree in Telecommunications Engineering Technology, you are equipped to pursue a career in telecommunications, computer networking, or management. Our curriculum is designed to provide you with the knowledge you will need no matter which capacity you choose.

Will I find employment?
SPSU graduates with a bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering Technology have been hired by well-known industry partners, including BellSouth, Cingular Wireless, Innovative-e.com, Interface Electronics, Marietta Fibernet, and Nortel Networks. Many of these companies are headquartered in the metro Atlanta area, and are constantly recruiting Southern Poly grads.
